Today, my Kung Fu journey led me to Luneta Park, Manila Philippines where I trained in Kalis Ilustrisimo (KI) with the Sunday Luneta group.

The followers of the late Mang Tony Diego gather here every Sunday as we did when Mang Tony was still alive. (Sadly, Mang Tony died last August.) These guys are keeping the art going as Mang Tony wanted us to do.

We now call it Kalis Ilustrisimo Repeticion Orihinal (KIRO). The Chief Instructor of the Philippines Headquarters of Kalis Ilustrisimo Repeticion Orihinal (KIRO) is now Maestro Arnold Narzo. Mang Tony trained Maestro Arnold to be his successor in the Philippines. He has been Mang Tony’s “right hand man” for many years. In fact, during most of my many private lessons with Mang Tony, Maestro Arnold would lead the lesson while Mang Tony supervised.

It was great to get back to my KI training with Maestro Arnold. We worked on stick and blade methods including single stick/sword, sword & dagger, single dagger and empty hands vs. dagger.

I had an amazing time training at Luneta again, and it was great to see everyone.

Stay tuned as my next post will be about training in Filipino Silat!
